I have always dreamt of designing and creating a clothing range that is unique, classical and feminine. Throughout my life I have been drawn to feminine colours, from blush pinks to nudes. My creative intuition led me to understanding that I had something special to offer, especially in my style of design and preferred colour palette. In 2017 I decided to take the plunge and start “Lucia”.
I graduated from Durban University of Technology with a National Diploma in Fashion Design. After completing my diploma, I was fortunate enough to be offered a job at an international surf-wear brand. The experience allowed me to further educate myself about the challenges of the industry, along with truly understanding what it takes to create commercially successful clothing ranges. I worked for the company for five years heading their ladieswear department for part of my time there. I made the difficult decision to work on my brand fulltime and finally give it the TLC it deserves. The challenge of working permanently within the industry and juggling my business was a driving factor in deciding that I needed to channel my talent towards the direction I had been aiming for. A personal brand that encompasses all that I hold dear creatively, including a hint of luxury, fine craftsmanship and a stylish touch or two that embodies the ideal Lucia client.
Travelling and exploring is close to my heart, it inspires me alongside being able to work with amazing creatives, business people, my incredibly supportive family and friends that have all helped me get Lucia to where it is today as it continues to grow. My travelling has afforded me the opportunity to seek out new trends and to connect with my love for fashion. From the cobbled streets of Italy to the fast-paced sidewalks of New York my eyes are always set on the inspiration I can translate into new designs for my brand.
My team and I take great pride in creating locally designed clothing and I aim to give women an extremely feminine, luxurious experience when wearing my garments. Our colour pallet is very specific, yet very feminine. All the styles are named after important women who inspire me on a daily bases and who have moulded me into the person that I am today.
